Former Director of Covenant House NYC Remembered for Multiple Contributions Made to His Family and Those in Need

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 22, 2008 -- Former Director of Human Resources for Covenant House NYC, Angel S. Rivera, suffered a major heart attack in his Brooklyn home on June 23, 2006 and died at the age of 51. Born in New York City on April 16, 1957 to Ana Lydia and Angel Sonny Rivera Sr., Angel was a highly respected community member known for his wit, compassion, and consideration of all. Nothing illustrates this more than Angel's dedication to his role with the Covenant House NYC. Covenant House is the nation's largest adolescent care agency serving homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth.

As a duel-degree graduate of the prestigious Cornell University in both Spanish Literature and Theater Arts, Angel had an intelligence and resourcefulness that became his trademark only highlighted by his endearing ability to make those around him comforted. After graduating from Cornell in 1978, Angel served in the United States Navy as a Combat Information's Officer, which was one of the many experiences which help to mold him into the man and friend everyone knew. Soon after leaving the U.S. Navy and before coming to the Covenant House NYC, Angel worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas continuing in his life's journey as a friend to all and a mentor to many. Angel's family has countless stories of Angel's graciousness and acumen as an adult with equal amounts of narratives regarding Angel's youth. One family member recounts Angel as a child with, "We have fond memories of Angel as a child working equally as hard; he always came home with all 'A's' and pictures of halos with comments of 'Angel is an Angel' from his elementary school teachers". Proving that good men often start as even better boys.

Survived by countless family members in New York City and Puerto Rico. Angel is survived by his mother Ana, sister Diane, God-Daughter Esther Diane, niece Nitasha, and nephew Allen III all of whom loved him dearly. An inspiration to his family, Angel's works and accomplishments have lead the younger members of his family to strive to be as regarded and fulfilled as he was. With his God-Daughter, niece and nephew following in Angel's footsteps of diligence and success; Esther Diane is a nurse, Nitasha will soon graduate from medical school and Allen will begin completing coursework towards degrees in Musical Performance and English Literature. Sadly, Angel Sr. passed away a few short months after the family lost Angel Jr.; may he rest in peace, as he is now alleviated of what ailed him.

The family would like to publicly thank Angel's secretary Martha at Covenant House for all she did during the trying times shortly after Angel's passing. Not only was Martha great at her job but was a kind, loving, and loyal friend of Angel's. The family thanks everyone else at Covenant House NYC, especially those that were able to send cards, flowers, kind words of sympathy, and offers of their prayers for the family. With the family in a state of shock, and in a tremendous amount of grief surrounding Angel's untimely death they feel a more proper sense of thanks is needed for some of Angel's closest friends who made special trips for the funeral.

In the whole ordeal after Angel's death, the family was unable to locate his beloved black book of contacts and important information; to anyone who knew Angel they knew this book was carried everywhere by him. Therefore, they were unable to contact others that would have felt the need to know about his passing.
