Angel S. Rivera, Former Director of Covenant House NYC, Remembered for the Multiple Contributions Made to His Family and Those in Need

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 24, 2008 -- Angel S. Rivera, age 51, passed away suddenly on June 23, 2006 after suffering a heart attack in his Brooklyn home. Angel was born in New York City on April 16, 1957 to his parents Ana Lydia and Angel Sonny Rivera Sr. Angel was brilliant, loving, compassionate and considerate in everything he did and with everyone he met. At the time of his death he worked as Human Resources Director for Covenant House. He found his work with Covenant House fulfilling, and worked tirelessly to do his job to the best of his ability.

We have fond memories of Angel as a child working equally as hard; he always came home with all "A's" and pictures of halos with comments of "Angels is an Angel" from his elementary school teachers. Angel went on to graduate from Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences in 1978 with degrees in both Spanish Literature and Theater Arts. He went on to serve as a Combat Information's Officer for the Navy from 1980 to 1984. During his all his years he made countless friends along the way to include those at the high school of Performing Arts here in New York, during his work with the Navy in Norfolk, Virginia, and during his career with Texas Instruments in Dallas.

Angel has countless family members in New York City and Puerto Rico. He is survived by his mother Ana, sister Diane, God daughter Esther Diane, niece Nitasha, and nephew Allen III all of whom love him dearly. He was always an inspiration to his family, with his God daughter, niece and nephew following in his footsteps of diligence and success; Esther Diane is a nurse, Nitasha will soon graduate from medical school and Allen will begin completing coursework towards degrees in Musical Performance and English Literature. Sadly, Angel Sr. passed away a few short months after we lost Angel Jr. May he rest in peace.

The family would like to publicly thank Angel's secretary Martha at Covenant House. "Martha, thank you for all of your support during the very difficult time following Angel's death. Not only was Martha great at her job but was a kind, loving, and loyal friend of Angel's. We thank everyone else at Covenant House, especially those that were able to send cards, flowers, kind words of sympathy, and offers of their prayers for our family. Our family was in shock, and grieving tremendously for his untimely death, and was unable to properly interact with some of his closest friends that made special trips for the funeral. We would like to thank them for their attendance and let them know that we fondly remember their presence. In the whole ordeal after Angel's death we were unable to locate his beloved black book of contacts and important information; if you knew Angel you knew he always carried it with him. Therefore, we were unable to contact others that would have felt the need to know about his passing. Our Angel's work is done on earth and now he has gone to heaven.
