Kay Stephenson's New Book, Lou's War, Offers a Unique Insight Into the Life and Times of One Family During World War II
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 11, 2007 -- Kay Stephenson started the research for Lou's War: The Stephensons in World War II as a way to fill in the gaps in her Dad's history. The war as not something he talked about. After his death, the project became a way to come to terms with his loss, and the book a way to share what she learned with other family members. However, what she wrote has broader appeal.
Lou's War is a uniquely personal history of one man's experiences and those of his family during World War II. Lou Stephenson saw the war through the eyes of medics and hospital staff caring for some of the most severely wounded in both Pacific and European theaters. Along the way, he lost a brother at Pearl Harbor, arriving just nine days too late for the reunion they had hoped for.
Unlike some heroic accounts of men from "the greatest generation", Lou, a recent college graduate from Sauquoit, NY, was drafted in early 1941, and didn't want any part of the U.S. Army. All he wanted was to coach a winning basketball team, and share a life with Dorie, his best girl. Instead, he became a medic serving with the 24th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks on Oahu, and then an officer in the Medical Administrative Corp, serving with the 65th General Hospital in England until the end of the war.
Lou's War tells his story through the diaries, letters, postcards, and documents he left behind. With the help of such diverse organizations as Cunard Lines (owners of the original Queen Elizabeth) and the staff of Hilton's Royal Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland, this book printed in full color, offers a glimpse into the people, places and images of the time.
About the author: Kay Stephenson worked in the computer industry for over 20 years. Since taking early retirement, she has worked with several non-profits in the Atlanta area and written articles for publications such as Georgia Gardening. This is her first book.
